Just to clarify...

What happened to his son? It seemed like the car rolled and ran over his son, but we saw him putting the handbrake on so I was a bit confused.

Also what happened to Trevor in the end? Was what Ben wrote true (that Trevor was faking) or was that a lie he told to give his story a more satisfying ending?

I've just watched the movie, but haven't read the book.

reply

Yes, according to the movie his son was killed by the car rolling over him. As far as Trevor faking his death at the end, I'm not sure if that matches the book or not.

I'm not sure if you have a standard vehicle or not, but I do. Sometimes when you don't put the brake up ALL the way (especially on a slope, obviously in neutral), it will roll down. Happened to me before in my driveway and I had to run to catch it.

I just found it kind of shocking/unlikely that a car rolling a few yards down a slight incline killed a 10 year old kid. People get full on hit by cars going at greater speeds than that, and it doesn't kill them. Stressed my suspension of disbelief a bit.

As for Trevor, I don't know. I'm not sure we have to know.

Never settle with words what you can accomplish with a flamethrower.

Anton Yechlin was killed from his car going down an incline at his own home. If it can kill a man in his twenties, I'm sure it can kill a ten year old kid.

It's entirely possible to be trapped underneath a car from an accident like that and that can most certainly kill you. I believe that might have been what happened to Yelchin.
