Grew up with Peanuts + LOVED this movie!
I thought this film was absolutely adorable. I loved Snoopy's side story, too... the ominous red airplane that represents all of life's obstacles. The entire movie was packed with very important underlying themes, not *just* the obvious ones. Like, when Charlie stops getting frustrated by his bad luck and finally lets go & asks for help, the kite swoops in and saves the day.
A lot of adults, like me, who grew up with the comics & cartoons were grateful that they stayed true to its spirit. The animation could've been Pixar'd to oblivion. The two dimensional characteristics could've been lost. All too often, remakes obliterate their ancestors, like the disastrous remake of Jem & the Holograms. But The Peanuts Movie was fantastic! It inspired children to become interested in the original cartoons and comics. The modern movie made the classics interesting, and that's super important!
I know a very few folks were disappointed, but that might be because of the natural scrutiny that people tend to cling to when anything they love is remade. Example: I am *obsessed* with The Dark Tower series, so when the movie is released, I'm already certain I'll be disappointed - and this is strictly based on who I see getting cast for all the various parts on top of the director who I have very serious doubts about. So I may very well hate it. But for someone with fresh eyes who hasn't read the series, it could turn out to be one of their favorite movies and will inspire them to read the books. But I sure do wish Daniel Day Lewis was playing Roland instead of that Idris fellow who just isn't Clint Eastwood's style of hard.
Anyway, I'm rambling at this point. The morals in this film were priceless and if any child is able to process & learn from them, their life will be dramatically changed for the better.
I gave this delightful animated feature 9 out of 10 stars. :)
