In the wraparound story when the couple first goes into the house, they go into the "tv room" and there are some paintings against the wall. The big one looks like a painting of the dead guy in the wraparound story from the first movie. Was this intentional? Are they saying this college kid was related to the old man?

It's assumed that the old man (dead guy) is the college student's grandpa or uncle or something. It's also assumed that V/H/S/2 takes place before V/H/S.
In VHS2 we see footage that was shot before VHS, when the guys that break into the house lift the girls dress up (if I remember correctly) so isn't VHS2 after the first in terms of chronology?
But I was thinking the same thing when we see the pictures near the wall. It looked like the old guy from the first movie.
