Did they ever say in the movie whether Brian's friend Sam survived getting shot by Stuart?

Stuart was pretty careful to give him a survivable wound..

When the cops arrived and opened the back of the van, the cop found Sam's body and said, "He's alive!"

I assume he did live, but it was too bad that the movie showed Brian thinking he was dead (seeing him lying in the truck), but did not show him finding out he was alive. Maybe it got left out in the editing.
