Do you think Aaron really died at the end??

I was reading the trivia section of this movie on here, and it was apparent that there was no blood involved during the axing of the head scene. It makes me think that Aaron may have decided to not meet up with Josef? It also made me wonder if Josef setup that ending with an actor who looked/sounded like Aaron so that the audience wouldn't think that Josef 'failed' at his killing quest this time around. It would also show that Aaron may have been quite smart after all. Josef had lied a lot during the entire film, so why not take it a step further and lie to the audience? It seems plausible to me, and it makes sense because Aaron would have to appear in the sequels.

plausible

Wait... What? We hear Aaron talk to the camera... And we see him walking towards the bench. We see his face. Sorry but you're theory is a bit surprising to read... As it kindof doesn't make any sense at all

reply

Yes Aaron really died at the end, unless he has an ax proof head.

or it was a dummy

Interesting theory, but I think he died as well. Aaron wouldnt be needed for the sequel, or even Josef really. The sequel could be about some other "creep" in a different mountain area. Or country.

 me.

I thought they made a really big point of "here you go, it's all one shot, here's his face, here's him walking, now sitting, now he's getting chopped in the head" as if to specifically say that yes, he's dead, there's no room for a dummy or a swap out or a body double because in that same static, uninterrupted shot that you see Aaron's face, you see him get split in the noggin.

There's zero way he lived and Duplass/Brice probably know they'd get a boatload of flack if they did try to cheese it and say he did survive.

I really hate when people can't accept something for what it is and overthink things. Geez, Aaron was murdered. You saw it!

There was no blood as far as you could see, but it was filmed from quite a distance away. Real life isn't like Kill Bill. When you hit someone in the head with an axe, blood doesn't come gushing out of your head like a geiser.

It makes me think that Aaron may have decided to not meet up with Josef?

What? So Josef hired a guy who looks exactly like Aaron to fake killing him? I don't understand your reasoning here. We heard Aaron speaking, we see him walk in front of the car and go sit on the bench. What do you suggest was actually happening?

It also made me wonder if Josef setup that ending with an actor who looked/sounded like Aaron so that the audience wouldn't think that Josef 'failed' at his killing quest this time around.

lol What? Who do you think "the audience" is? Josef is making these movies for himself. He's the only audience. And how did he get Aaron's video if Aaron never actually showed up?

It would also show that Aaron may have been quite smart after all. Josef had lied a lot during the entire film, so why not take it a step further and lie to the audience? It seems plausible to me, and it makes sense because Aaron would have to appear in the sequels.

Your theory seems to be operating on a meta level that this movie was absolutely not going for.

I really thought it was a dummy. He certainly would have heard Josef if it was a person.

It was a dummy. A dummy named Aaron.
