Good film, one question though

I don't quite get how the sister fits in. Aaron clearly knew her, as evidenced by the phone conversation, and she clearly knew her brother was dangerous. OK, I get that. What I'm not getting is Aaron's subsequent call to the police in which he states that he knows nothing at all about Josef, doesn't know his last name, where he lives, how to find him. Why doesn't he mention the sister? She could certainly give the police lots of info on her brother. The two scenes don't seem to fit together. Maybe I missed something. Very good film though, superbly acted.

Watch it again, it's clear Aaron doesn't know her. At first he thinks it's Josef's wife.

reply

He didn't know the "wife" at all, though. He didn't even know she was Josef's sister.

reply

The OP is right that the sister doesn't really make sense. This guy is a serial killer, his sister seems aware that he's dangerous, but she still skirts around the issue. The police could easily find him with her help.

Regardless, I really liked the movie. Good mix of creepiness and humor.

reply

Clearly the sister wasn't aware that he's quite that dangerous. She also had no clue about the cabin, because as it turned out later, it was a rental. She asked for the address at which point the call broke up.

reply

The phone call also came through on Josef's phone, not Aaron's, so he had no way of tracking her down.

"Like a cloud over the desert, I refuse to participate!"

reply

Well, we never see Aaron giving Josef the cellphone back!

reply

For crying out loud, man! After getting to know that his life could be seriously at risk in the hands of a psycho like that, how could you expect him to give the guy the phone back?! How could you expect him to even remember to do that? Come on, wise up!

How are the police supposed to track Angela down? All they would have is a first name. They don't even know what city\town to start looking in.

...uh, Caller ID?

How are they gonna get that off of Josef's phone?

Yes indeed, Aaron didn't know the sister at all, Aaron quickly answered Josef's phone to stop it from ringing thinking it was Josef's wife and to try to possibly get a clue as to wtf was up with her creepy ass husband.

As to his call to the police, why didn't he mention her? Because he knows zilch about her or her relation to Josef. Aaron had nothing to tell the police besides two peoples first names and wasn't even sure how the two, Josef and the "female"Elena maybe, were actually related to one another because it was never revealed to him.

Was a great little film, an original in a world of copies.

I was convinced Joseph was staging every scene and every conversation to create a totally different story (maybe a frame job) on Aaron. Overall fantastic movie. Originally I thought the sister was a voice recorder but after re watching it she was indeed on the phone. The scene was odd, I still believe there is more too it then we actually see... Blum has a way of creating more questions then he answers. I kinda sorta believe creep 2 will be similar to Insidious 2 whereby we begin to get answers about the first movie.

My bet is that Joseph was staging scenes with Aaron to get a specific response from him that will be used later in creep sequels. Good stuff, I love what Blum does with movies

To me, the bigger question was why didn't Aaron say he had video of him. LIterally has his face on camera, why is that insufficient to the cops?

reply

A woman I know was being harassed by a very vague acquaintance (he knew someone who used to live in her building) and she got fobbed off by the police repeatedly to the point she felt hopeless. I took over and *eventually* they took it seriously and took action.

This was with knowing the man's name and address and having proof of what he was doing. This was less than 10 years ago.

So it didn't feel like a plot hole to me that the police weren't any help to Aaron.

On another thread, it is posited that "Angela" was a fake - a woman hired to make that very phone call to further play with Aaron's mind, which Josef obviously loves to do before killing. If you think about it, that idea makes more sense than that it was really Josef's sister.

reply

No that idea makes absolutely no sense unless you first assume that Josef knew that Aaron would drug him. Which in itself is a crazy assumption to make. Not to mention Angela would have to know when Josef was unconscious and being searched by Aaron. So how in the hell does that make more sense than it actually being his sister coincidentally calling at that moment?

The scene where he talks to the sister on the phone was so irritating. He was asking her way too many questions. As soon as she said you need to leave, I would've been up and outta there. He asked " what the fuck is going on here"? Whats going on is you need to get TF out...stupid

reply

I didn't understand that either.

Of course the most egregious bit of stupidity was at the end. The dude is waiting for this creepy, possibly murderous dude,
and he's sitting by a lake looking out over the lake with his back to land!!!! Seriously???????
