Where did the cops go?

Maybe I missed something, but when the cops are chasing Nick, who is also chasing Chord, we see Chord and the girl fall out of the car, and Nick keeps going and crashes. Then after a minute or so, Chord walks up to Nick's car. But where did the police go? Did they just decide the movie was so bad it was time to go home? Wouldn't they have taken Chord into custody and rescued the girl? He may have had technology on his side, but he couldn't have taken out all those cops, especially after falling out of a moving vehicle. And if the cops just ignored him, they would have at least kept after Nick, who is the one they were actually chasing, and arrested him. Maybe I should just go back and check, but... eh... it was a bad movie.
