Tom Felton
Ok. I didn't like this movie so much at all. It was a big hype for really nothing. I think it moved way too quickly, and I would have liked to see more about Belle when she was younger. For example, I think they should have elaborated a little more on her childhood like, for example, some of the racial things she experienced growing up, what things she had to go through before her family members started to accept her, etc.... We didn't get any of this. I think adding more detail, and the audience getting to see more of the girl's struggle being black in a white home, would have made the character more compelling. I frankly didn't care what happened to her or any of the others, which is the director's fault. He rushed through it all and didn't give any character building details, so, I never truly felt like I had "gotten to know Belle" or her story.
Now on with it about Tom Felton.....
Despite the fact that he had a minor part, he's not easy on the eye, and I still see him as "Draco Malfoy" from Harry Potter, I think he did a fantastic job in his role as the racist, older brother, James Ashford! I felt like the scene in which he was physically abusive with Belle was very powerful and that he played it extremely well. It was like he was truly angry and resentful. It showed in his eyes. Honestly, his little part out-shined the other actors', as I found them boring and dull.
All in all, I felt that this film fell flat on its face. I know it's a true story, but things needed to be elaborated on a more. That's my only hang up.
Thanks for reading! :)
