Quick Question re the two cousins for those who've seen the film

I will be seeing the film in two weeks when it comes to my town, but in the interim, I have a question --is it Dido or her cousin Elizabeth who is depicted as the rebellious one of the two of them?

Thanks for your quick answer!

reply

It is Dido who is the more rebellious.

reply

Do the cousins have a good relationship/are they close?

reply

Yes, they act like sisters rather than cousins.

reply

At one point, I remember Elizabeth saying words like "She is more than my cousin; she is my sister." Not her exact language, but close.

reply

they are both rebellious in their own way.

reply

It seems like that's possible too.

To the OP:

Belle is rebellious in a sense that she was curious about the abolishment, and wants to see things get changed.

Elizabeth's rebellion is more on a playful side, like when she talked about her aunt being a maid and not following orders during dinner.

reply

Dido is brighter, more gifted, and more rebellious. Apparently Jane Austen actually met the real Elizabeth and thought she was pretty dull, though that would have been later in life. Basically they set it up as a Pride and Prejudice pair, with Dido as Elizabeth Bennett and her cousin as Jane, with a bit of Marianne Dashwood feistiness thrown in when it comes to being in love.

reply

Bet is portrayed as a conventional young woman of the period, Belle as headstrong and negotiating her way in the world, but I'm not sure "rebellious" quite fits.
