John Davinier

Man, oh, man. Aside from being absolutely gorgeous, Sam Reid's performance was FLAWLESS. He was so passionate...every little movement / detail he made with his eyes and lips made him all the more convincing. I loved how his eyes watered very slightly when he made his little speeches.

I can't imagine anyone else playing Davinier; I'm glad Sam Claflin wasn't able to do it. I don't think he could have done it so beautifully, poetically, gentlemanly, yet subtlety, as Reid did.

I'm in love.

I couldn't agree with you more. Sam Reid played the role so passionately, whether it was about his love for Dido or the indignancy of slavery. The on screen chemistry between him and Gugu was magnetic and though out the development of their romance his facial expressions alone show how his feelings for Dido go from disdain to true love.

Since I bought the Blu-ray last week I've re-watched the film several times and with each viewing I pick up on the subtle nuances of Sam's performance. I look forward to seeing him in more films in the future.

I thought his performance was leading or supporting actor Oscar worthy. If Keira could be nominated for playing Elizabeth Bennet and Emma Thompson as Elinor Dashwood, than I thought he had the potential. Granted, I know Austen film adaptations are a big deal, but his acting was so passionate and emotional and perfect. It felt like he believed every word he was saying. I believed every word he was saying! It was just beautiful acting on his part. The whole film, I felt, was beautifully acted.

Same with me . He was perfect for this role in every way.

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.

Agreed. Sam was fabulous as was everyone in this lovely film.

I loved his character. He reminded me of Heath Ledger in the Patriot, but better looking. He also sounded exactly like Heath Ledger.

so glad claflin dropped out since i've never found him leading man attractive.

agreed, sam reid's performance was so passionate and you really buy davinier's love for dido, you can see it and you can feel it. sam reid also looks so much better with dark hair.

gugu's and sam's romantic chemistry is insane!
