Things I hated (SPOILERS)

What got me to watch this movie is that the book it was based on was written by the same author as "Gone Girl"

I found the movie very depressing, dark, it had a good mystery for a while but what killed it for me were two things:

1- The whole "occultism" thing, they made it too relevant as if it was almost a real thing, as if the murders were inspired by that, and not greed.

2- The finale was so rushed, I wasn't expecting a Sherlock Holmes diatribe or a Scooby Gang explanation, but after the detailed events of the tragic night (i'll give them that) it was in a rush to finish, and the report on TV did not help.

I think the cast did well with what they were given, but unlike Gone Girl the director of Dark Places lacked vision to make this movie so much better.

The occult gave the legitimacy needed for the conviction in the movie. As for the ending....rushed? It flashed back to the whole ending in detail. There was the explanation by Nichlolas's Hoult character over the phone. The recap on the tv news story. The scene after where you hear the mom's letter to her kids. The final conversation after that with her brother. The ending scene and narration by Theron. Not sure I understand the complaint.

I agree with the op to an extent.

The satan worshippin stuff was used because in the 80s it was all the rage. Check out the story of the Memphis 3. or the McMartin trial. it was all the rage at the time. But it was pretty irrelevant to the story as it didnt play a big role in this particular case. They kinda crobarred it in.

The ending was sorta rushed in that they reveal the ending, its a bit unsatisfying and the next scene girl is arrested and bro's released within seconds of filmtime.

I agree, except that while I thought at the time that the ending was rushed, I realize now that I found the dénouement to be too short; the wrap-up, so to speak. I think this is because her going back to the farm set me up to expect more of a "reveal" of some kind.

2 things.
1: the title of the movie is DARK places. Did you expect the movie to not be dark
2: you thought this was darker then gone girl? Gone girl was the most twisted price of trash I've ever seen
