Christina Hendricks broke my heart

Overall slightly disappointed with Dark Places, but still liked it. I thought Christina Hendricks was perfect and heartbreaking. Theron proved the nay-sayers wrong with a gripping turn as Libby. Stoll and Sheridan were also great as Ben. Holt and Moretz were a bit disappointing. Holt's performance was surprisingly wooden, just reading off lines. Moretz seemed to do a hybrid channeling of her characters from Kick-Ass and Let Me In and it didn't work.

I agree...Hendricks and Theron were both working on two different levels of tragedy. Hendrick's character will be remembered in the strong but silent mother category.

Agreed, Christina was great. It's so easy to give a screaming, scenery chewing portrayal of a woman in this situation but Hendricks was very reserved and restrained and that served the story more.

Absolute nonsense. The characters couldn't be further apart

Completely agree with all of this.

Despite not looking like Libby, I thought Charlize was Libby. She was perfect to me. On the other hand, Christina Hendricks as Patty was exactly how I imagined her to be in the book and she was terrific in this!

I believe there is another world waiting for us, Sixsmith.

It took me a moment when she came on screen to realize it was Hendricks. Her performance was very understated and, yes, heart-breaking.

I was surprised to find CH as Patty since I actually pictured her while reading the book. I think her performance was the best, though I wish they hadn't toned down her red hair

same, didn't realize it was her at first. riveting performance

Christina Hendricks was great as the mother.

But in the end, her decision changed my sympathy for that character.

Christina Hendricks gave the best performance in the movie. Patty Day was clinically depressed-at times she was so overwhelmed her children had to drag her out of bed-and that came across perfectly.
CH is beautiful. She certainly didn't look like a prematurely aged woman of thirty-three. Her talent made her convincing.

Charlize Theron is also talented but completely miscast as Libby.

Yeah she pulled a stellar performance and is one of the actresses I haven't seen alot of (mainly cause most things she's done are tv-series that I haven't seen) that I'm more interested in seeing what she'll do next... She was also great in Lost River

I'm gonna refuse you an offer you can't make
