Just finished reading the book and i am hesitant to watch the movie

I mean right off the bat, while Theron is a good actress, casting her as Libby is just poor decision making which makes me wonder how questionable the overall production values might be.

The director's previous work isn't that encouraging either to say the least, he seems inexperienced compared to David Fincher who is a very competent director and undertook Gone Girl, which most likely succeeded to convey the essence of the book on screen (haven't read the book yet).

Then we have the imdb rating and metascore both indicating that i am most likely correct in my assertion, that the movie must fall in the mediocre spectrum.

I watched the movie and not only it's vastly inferior to the book, they actually proceeded to literally butcher it. This would have worked much better as a tv mini series, do yourself a favor and read the novel instead, Gillian Flynn is a charismatic writer but the movie did her work great injustice.

reply

I think a HUGE part of the problem is that Gillian Flynn didn't adapt it.

I just finish the book two days ago and I have the same dilemmas as you Iceflamez. I am sorry but I can't imagine Theron as Libby. I am actually prefers an anonymous actress for this role, someone we can connect with. In general, in horror-thriller films it is better to cast lesser-known actors. The book is one of the greatest thriller ever, it's shame that from what you said they ruin Gillian Flynn book.

Never heard of the book, but saw the film, and Theron was cast perfectly for the role---period.

reply

Not even close, this case is probably the worst miscast in the history of cinema. Read the book and you will realize why.

reply

I liked the movie and I thought she was good.

That's all I'm saying.

I have not read the book.

reply

I thought the movie was very good, though the book was of course better.

reply

Totally agree with Iceflamez!
