Any impact on tourism
Has there been any upswing in tourism numbers in Shetland since the TV series? It definitely looks very pretty, but very very far for most of us in the UK (and not easily accessible)

shareHow far can it be? I flew into the Shetlands back in 2012 or so, as a tourist, from the USA. Fly-be has several flights a day, if I remember right. And it is worth the flight. I spent only a few days in the Shetlands in September. I'm not sure if I could survive January, to view the galley burning. I'd definitely be bundling up for that.
shareI never heard about Shetland before I've watched the series. It make me wish to go there someday, what a beautiful scenery. So yeah, I think the tourism must be increase. Btw, I live in Indonesia :)
shareI´m from Portugal, so it will be hard to be there in the winter 😀 but it became a must do in my list!! A little bit unreal but a goal! What an amazing natural scenery! The sea, the houses, the steets. All of it!
shareJust a detail: over here we always knew about Shetland because of ... "malhas Shetland" ... "Shetland Sweater".
shareBeen to Shetland and would love to go again, though will fly next time. That long boat ride is a romp if you have a weak stomach...ha.
A friend of mine who lives in the West of Scotland reminded me when we were talking about the show, that the preponderance of the filming at least in the early series is done on the Scottish mainland, no where near Shetland. :-)) Like Ayrshire, etc.
Like Jimmy's house etc.
Not sure about the latter episodes though.

Thanks for that info! I thought that they filmed in Shetland. At least the most part. I remembre reading an interview with Douglas Henshall and he said that the police and hospital buildings were in Glasgow, that his mother worked in that hospital and that have been special. Correct me if I´m wrong.
