A Truly Awesome Comic Book Movie
Age of Ultron is a comic book movie for comic book fans. Sort of like how Spider-Man 2 captured the pop-art and good feels of its book; AoU really encapsulated what it's like to read a fun-filled Avengers romp with new character origins and a diabolical evil-plot-hatching villain and gorgeous "splash pages" of kinetic excitement. Objectively, it is in the top half of the MCU - and the MCU is itself a consistently good movie mega-franchise, so that's saying something.
Ultron, crimson cowl and all, leading the at-first evil twins to acquire Vibranium from Klaw to create Vision! YES! Also, his evil scheme was creative, evil-logical, and yet totally bonkers.
Hulk-Buster versus Hulk in an epic battle that proves you can wreck the sh!t outta stuff and have fun and not be boring and still achieve character development all the while. Nobody does it better than Joss!
Holy Hell, VISION was a revelation. This character, alongside Scarlet Witch are perfect additions to the MCU roster of superheroes. You couldn't pick two better pieces to add to the cast and I am so excited to see where they take them. The poetry of having them come into the picture together as orphans feeling a shared circumstance of loss and personal discovery did justice to Marvel's finest couple.
Hawkeye Family Cabin and the Avengers Party scenes gave real heart to the characters and the movie, and made me like them as characters with depth not just as avatars of coolness. The team attempting to lift the hammer, I mean c'mon that is an all-time classic CBM scene. And guess what... Vision holding it was only half the pay-off... (Infinity Wars 2!)
Talk all the crap you want about Thor's mangled vision quest, that was over-edited, yes, but it's also still in the oven as Thor: Ragnarok will tie-in (comic book phraseology) and pay it off.
