Drapers and clerks living in the store?
Was this commonplace in 1875? I have heard of people living in a portion of their own shops. The arrangement in the Paradise seems to be more like a dormitory with a cafeteria.
shareYes, it was common enough during this time period, and into the edwardian era, with medium to large businesses. Similar to the way there were servants quarters on the top floors of large estates.
