I assume this has been discussed but I can't find it. Sure, I see the levity in paying her only $50 for winning the bet on who kills who if she was his wife (at least in a community property state), but I believe he was "paying for her" as well. Which is why he got off on her sleeping with someone else. I assume she had a background in this type of work and that is how they met and it just took off from there. Plus, no offense to those named Violet, but it is a commonly used alter ego for those in the trade.

But damn, she was smoking in this film.....

The practice is common enough to have its own term, cuckold. The women usually aren't former hookers. Swingers and people like those in this movie, probably don't use their real names when they play.

The gimmick of the movie "TRADING PLACES" is that the bet was only a buck to switch 2 men , one from becoming a Wall street wizard from a petty thief and the other from becoming a homeless man from a Wall street wizard. They probably did not want to emulate that; But it would have been funnier if the bet was only a buck.

He obviously us much older then her. They are probably married but she was specifically looking for an older wealthy man that would let her sleep with other guys.
