Did they really have to ... ? *** spoiler ***

Aside from what I felt were rip-offs of Mud and Winter's Bone ... I know, I know, the novel predates everything but I felt elements of this movie were riding on the coattails of the others' success ... I did like Joe.

However, there was one part that stood out like a red herring, for me, if you will forgive the pun. It was when Joe went to the bordello and said he needed to get "blown." Then he returns, apparently does get his wish, which seemed rather a short visit, or perhaps they were cutting it so. Or did he even get what he had gone for? At least he managed to get rid of the offending dog. Perhaps that is what he had really gone for.

Anyway, I wasn't quite sure if I got why that scene was in there -- this whole idea of a bj. And I sure didn't really like it. Think if it gets cut out for more family-oriented tv, it won't hurt the film at all.

I think it's quite bizarre how people can get so up in arms about animal abuse yet be completely unbothered by the brutal bludgeoning of a defenseless man and implied child prostitution/rape.

Everybody needs love. Have you held your hostage today?

reply

Because lower animals are totally innocent, unlike any person.

reply

Although I agree the child prostitution was most repellent.

They said on the commentary track that the dogs were playing. They made it dark inside the house and slowed the action down and added sounds. I forgot what red stuff (supposed to look like blood) was on the dog's face. Some sort of sweet dessert like stuff. He said the dog really enjoyed licking it off.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

Lower animals are more innocent than a child???

Sort your life out.

I've noticed this time and again crooked...honestly blows my mind as well. I love animals, but an already abused girl (lots of hints at it), being raped...that makes my blood boil.

He wasn't complaining about the animal abuse in that post. I know this is old, but did you even read it when you replied?

"Hello, hello, what's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here!"

reply

You don't really need a lot of time for some guys.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
