One Of My Idols

I'm 49 and I first saw Siskel and Ebert in 1979 on PBS. I dont think I missed a single show until Gene died in 1999. They directed me to sooo many films that I have either loved, or at least found worthy of bringing up in conversation.
I liked that they LOVED movies and were personally insulted when they viewed a bad, big budget film. They disagreed and were honest about their disagreements, but they both admitted that they truly loved each other.

Roger was an excellent writer about many different topics. I recommend the three volume collection "Great Movies"; his writing is conversational yet intelligent and quite incisive.

I liked the movie, but found the recent scenes difficult to watch. The most upsetting moment I think was his choking when his feeding tube was inserted in his tracheostomy opening. Very sad to see him in pain and speechless. My only criticism was that there weren't any film actors interviewed; they could have added so much to the conversation.

Just a little note: Roger shared a birthday with another one of my idols, Paul McCartney: June 18, 1942.

RIP Roger, and Thank you.
