Can they deny a woman an abortion like that? The doctor and therapist..

were annoying as hell. Why couldn't the doctor accept that Joe didn't want to keep the baby and that she wanted an abortion? He looked so shocked and immediately assumed she was just acting on impulse. Yeah, it's a serious decision, but she wasn't being impulsive, she wanted it out of her end of story. She is NOT suitable to be a mother and there is no way she was gonna go through getting pregnant again.

The therapist straight up said something like, "we are trying to see if you are mentally suitable for an abortion and it clearly seems like you are not." To which Joe storms off.

So what if Joe didn't storm off? What they are just gonna let the fetus stay in her and force her to deliver it? If the woman wants an abortion let her get the abortion (I know as sad as it is to say). I know plenty of women and teens who have gotten several abortions no problem. Why were the physicians making it so difficult? Now Joe removing the fetus herself was way too damn much (Von Trier and his signature graphic scenes), but maybe she could've gone to another doctor's office?

I know, right? That part had me wondering as well. The procedure for these things is definitely not the same today. But this movie is a kind of period movie, and the music gives clues to what decade we're in. I think at this point we're in the '80s in Britain, and that's Thatcher territory and her hard moral hammer destroying the homes of the low working class. This takes someone who is more aware of what the Thatcher government and women's rights under that hard conservative era was like, but that scene in the movie doesn't appear that far fetched when you think about the era.

Really that surprises you? Where you live probably plays a part. Look what emotional damage a woman must go through in the states to obtain one! 48 hours, couseling, watching an ultrasound, etc. It's all crazy and getting worse every day!

Abortion destroys a unique, growing human being. I myself am nothing but an old fetus.
