Intentional and Unintentional Homages

Watching this, there were some scenes that brought to mind a few other movies.

-Terminator 2- The way Ravenna was "reborn" out of the mirror, and also the way she was killed
-Conan- All the kids being taken to be made into fighter slaves after killing off all parents in the village
-Indian Jones and The Temple of Doom- When the kids were freed at the end and running out of the castle into the sunlight.
-Chronicles of Narnia- Snow/Ice Queen, riding a giant white snow beast
-LOTR- Gold object brings out murderous evil in people.
-Cloverfield- Ravenna's crowned head rolling to a stop in front of camera, similar to Statue of Liberty's head rolling to a stop in the middle of the street.
-Frozen- of course.

Feel free to add.

I'm still surprised no one mentions Brave given Jessica Chastain's abundant red hair and archery skills. She even posed as Merida for one of those Disney's Annie Leibowitz portraits

Someone went to the Cersei Lannister school of acting, that's another one.

I thought Maleficent and Freya were similar characters; that is, experienced similar development. First good, then bad, then good.

And the climb on the ice wall reminded me of the wildlings' climb in Game of Thrones.

Other than that, I also thought of Terminator 2, Narnia, LOTR and Frozen while watching :)

Hemsworth really reminded me of Val Kilmer's Madmartigan (Willow) performance in the original film. In this one, Jessica Chastain was pretty much Sorsha.

In addition to the ones already mentioned I found:
- Return of the Jedi - scene where they get caught in the net
- Labyrinth - when they cross the bog of eternal stench
- Congo - the Goblins were done like angry gorillas

both movies: black goo/spikes/henchmens from raveena kinda looks like the alien entity known as venom in spiderman. specially on the 2 movie (this one) when it uses it as long spikes stabbing everyone near her and freya. in the movies area you got spider-man 3 and in cartoons and comics every time venom its shown so its a HUGE homage...
