SPOLERS I'm so disappointed of a lot of people in this Message board

I've just viewed this wonderful movie. And all I could say is it was very sweet. I enjoyed the acting, The scenery, And the plot. Even had a tasteful Sex scene... I was looking forward to reading the messages here, But all I've read here are people Complaining. I haven't read the book, But I thought in my humble opinion that this movie was sweet. Who cares if she got married and didn't tell anybody, Who cares if she met a guy when she went back to Ireland and liked him. Etc.. Can't we just watch a film and enjoy it for what it is?

You make excellent points. It seems that most of the complaints are loosely "because the story didn't go where they wanted it to go." Like you I think this is a remarkably good movie that shows the vagaries and difficulties of a young single girl immigrating in the 1950s from Ireland to the USA, specifically Brooklyn.

Some erroneously consider this a love story. It isn't. Yes, there are male-female relationships, and a marriage, but those are there to support the main story which is her dealing with the relocation.

Others don't understand the climate in the 1950s in the Catholic Church. Some priests even taught that it was a sin to marry outside the church. Some viewers wonder why she didn't tell others in Ireland that she married, if you understand her close family ties to the priest in Brooklyn and the religious climate back then, it all makes perfect sense.

I don't get as upset as you seem, I understand that viewers can and do go off on tangents in discussing movies, I just feel sorry for some of them who, as you say, "Can't just watch a movie and enjoy it for what it is."

Thank you TxMike for getting it. After what you said I'm no longer "upset" I now feel sorry for them, for Nitpicking the film, instead of just enjoying it.

Well then you haven't read my posts, or plenty of others who did enjoy this poignant film. I haven't written anything negative. Don't focus on the negative; it's just different tastes. I think it's a beautiful film and I only wish it were longer.

IMDB is littered with snarky whine bags. They are entitled to their opinions but some go out of their way to be negative. They don't sign my paycheck so screw them.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

To "Chicago85" lol You're funny I like that attitude. & to "TotheWatersAndTheWild" thank you too & I also agree that it is a beautiful film and it should've been longer also, at least 20 more minutes.

I love this movie so much. My Italian mother married a German Irish man. My dad. I get so many of the references. I have watched it over and over.
