I was surprised that Eilis had sex with Tony before marrying him. It seemed out of character for her.

What do the rest of you think about this?

I guess it was on the account that they had already agreed to marry

but I think for her, it was a wrong thing she was doing, yes.

I was glad they did and I thought it was sort of sweet. That said I am glad they got married after that because I was afraid she would just bang him, go back to Ireland, stay there and break his poor heart.

In the book, they hadn't agreed to marry yet. I think it was a little out of character for her, especially since she never decides if she really loves Tony or not.

The sex scene AND her marrying Tony completely ruin any question that she
might stay in Ireland. Had she not married and not had sex with Tony,
there would've been a far greater chance of her not returning, and the
ending not so predictable. Too bad. The film is also way too long,
with sluggish pacing.

I thought it was a little OOC, too. She seemed like a good, proper Catholic girl. I was expecting a wedding night love scene, tbh. Although, I think pre-marital sex happened more often than we think back then(I think people just didn't talk about it as much).

i was a little surprised too. but then I started thinking that they were facing an emotional, jarring separation, and got swept up in the moment. and in the moment prolly reasoned, whats the big deal, we will be official in a few hours anyway.
