What do the Irish eat besides Irish stew?

That little boy interrupted her before she could answer. What do Irish people eat besides stew?

And that's not all........................That's all!

Anything green, as long as it has Guinness with it.

Why, potatoes of course.

reply

That's racist! Also, potatoes came from Latin America and so the earliest Irish eating a potato would be in 1492 if they were part of the crew which 'discovered' the Americas. The Spanish brought potatoes to Europe circa 1570 and they were adopted as a staple food by the Irish shortly thereafter. 245 years later the potato blight hit Ireland which caused mass migration to the US.The mass Italian migration to the US happened due to Italian unification in 1861 which is 16 years after the Irish started heading to the US. The Italians themselves benefiting their culture from the tomatoes of Latin America. And so back to my original question but with a slight amendment; What do the Irish eat besides Irish Stew (And potatoes!). Stupid - foolish, gullible, doltish, dumbbell... Need input!

If only there was a way to search for the answers to dumb questions. Perhaps it could be online--like some sort of search engine.

Most food was exported to England, especially butter, pork, etc. during the potato famine. The shipments had to be guarded by the British Army during the genocide called the Potato famine. The British Army acted like Roman armies did in guarding grain shipments from Egypt to Rome. Beef was turned into corned beef and almost all of it exported to feed the British army around the world. The British army has had lots of Irish men who enlisted just to have food to eat.

Ireland is surrounded by the ocean. There was fishing so they ate fish (fish and chips these days rather than a fish stew). Soda bread was a staple. They also ate boiled cabbage and oatmeal dishes.

Its sounds pretty bland like New England boiled dinners without many spices.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

Thank you for that historical information.

The world assumes that there was no food because of the potato blight but there was plenty of food....for the English to steal. And steal it they did.
