Coco is number #1 for the third week straight! Incredible -33.5% drop($18.3M). Disney to hold #1 spot for many weeks :D

Coco BV $18,303,000 -33.5% $135,508,690

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $135,508,690 34.8%
+ Foreign: $254,000,000 65.2%
= Worldwide: $389,508,690

Another sexy drop this weekend ;3 It is still dropping better than Moana/Tangled and I expect it to go up slightly when actuals are released. The China total right now is at a mouthwatering $128M. Disney is killing it once again and set to dominate well into the new year. I wonder what movie will end up dethroning Star Wars: The Last Jedi in the long run and ending this monster run by Disney.

While it is doing very well in China, the domestic performance is fine but unremarkable. There hasn't been any real competition(so far) and it"s not cleaning up like an Illumination film would be on this same scenario.

Heck, Coco took two whole weeks to make as much as the cheap, horrid Secret Life of Pets made in it's Opening Weekend.. Coco isn't close to breaking even yet, as well.

There's a chance it may collapse in the face of Ferdinand/Jumanji.

I share your love for this film, but I've got to be realistic here.

And then how would you behave if Ferdinand and/or Jumanji made a surprise? Or Pitch Perfect 3?

reply

Huh?

reply

If any of those three movies were to have a stronger opening week against Coco, perform well domestically, and/or even perform well internationally?

reply

I expect Pitch Perfect and Jumanji to do really well and Ferdinand is an unknown since it's Blue Sky and not Illumination or DreamWorks.

reply

I see.

It seems that a lot of non-Ice Age movies of Blue Sky tend to be a wild card whenever it comes to their own performances. Ferdinand could go either way.

It's all about those juicy legs. Actuals went up slightly to $18,452,315 just as I predicted :D

The holiday season is always about them legs so it's no surprise compared to a big summer animated movie, especially a good film like The Secret Life of Pets that had a great concept and very accessible to families. The thing about Pixar/WDAS releases is that they're so staggered, so we never really get the full picture until months later. It's doing very well in all the markets released so far tho!

You gotta be more optimistic Queen! Coco is doing gangbusters and it's going to be a fun ride :)
