Sound Editing Ruined it for me
I love James Bond. Most incarnations, anyway. It's wonderful action escapism. While I accept that the storyline itself, is not the main reason to see a Bond film, one SHOULD be able to hear that story.
Not so for Spectre. The volume of the dialog is so low and the music & explosions so loud, that I had to choose. In the theater, I got a refund. Tried watching from home, but after 20 minutes of holding the remote to adjust the sound up and down, I gave up. Was there a story? I assume the writer would have appreciated my being able to hear the dialog.
Example: My sound system has a maximum of 50 (whatever that equates, I don't know, but it shows scale). For dialog, I was at 28 to hear it as a normal voice in the same room. Music and explosions were dialed down to 10 for me to hear it slightly louder than a normal voice. That's a huge change! I thought my head would explode when the music kicked in. Of course, after the first time, I couldn't actually hear any of the dialog, nor could I hear my friend, sitting right next to me.
Someone explained that such sound issues are due to the way a DVD is compressed. No DVD here... in theater and via Amazon Prime streaming. Shame on the sound editors! Thank goodness I still have Bourne.
