Waltz wasn't impressed by his Blofeld

In a very recent interview Waltz said that he didn't really nail the role of Blofeld. Him saying that really explains a lot! What do you guys think?

Couldn't agree more. I think the writing and story were both awful so I don't really put it on the actors. Not really sure where they go if Waltz and Craig don't sign back on.

reply

The same place they went to for every other Bond film? Bond in a standalone mission?

In fact, Craig and Waltz shouldn't sign back on and they should start afresh.

They've obviously gone away from the typical standalone Bond mission stories. I wish they'd go back to it and it's a reason why I like Quantum so much.

But i think they've definitely been influenced by the Nolan Batman trilogy and comic book movies and want to string a bunch of movies together. I feel like they've rebooted 3 times already, and they probably wanted a trilogy of Craig vs Waltz, starting with Spectre, so they've almost backed themselves into a corner. Hard to keep that story going with 2 completely different actors, and with Blofeld unresolved, can they just reboot again and pretend spectre didn't happen? Even if Waltz comes back and Craig doesn't, not a good look.

Given SF was intended to be a standalone film, and that their dodgy retcon job in SP backfired on them, I think it's safe to say they're gunna return to standalone missions.

Had they obtained the rights to Spectre when they made QOS, the last three films could have been the Blofeld trilogy the filmmakers wanted. Quantum was originally supposed to be Spectre, not a retconned subsidiary of Spectre.

By the time they got around legally to starting the story, we have what we have now -- an unenthusiastic Daniel Craig ready to jump ship, and now an honest Christoph Waltz who confesses he wasn't thrilled with his part, either.

They're going to have three choices:

1. Pay Craig and Waltz a BOATLOAD of money to return for two more films, with one hell of a strong storyline to back them up;

2. Make the next film a standalone mission (sans Craig or with Craig) acknowledging Blofeld but explaining away that he's not part of the storyline anymore;

3. A standalone mission with a new actor as Bond completely ignoring the Craig films.

Or, option 4 could be to stop making the films altogether ...

Option 3 please.

I would LOVE to see Christoph Waltz back! The SPECTRE meeting was amazing!

I think he was rather bland, and I don't know why they bothered to give him that scar that only one previous Blofeld had, but I certainly hope the studio isn't reluctant to bring the character back. Not necessarily in the next film, but in the future I'd like to see them take another crack at it.

When Waltz is at the top of his game (INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, DJANGO UNCHAINED) few actors can better him but when he is not he delivers below average performances like he does in SP, THE GREEN HORNET and apparently THE LEGEND OF TARZAN although I have yet to see that.

reply

Maybe they'll give him an all-tan Nehru suit, like YOLT and DAF.

I know he can do it. It's just that you can't give him a script that sets him up to fail.

He didn't nail his Blofield?

No kidding.

He didn't look like he was trying to do anything in this role.

Due to the lack of moderators, trolls can ruin the IMDB message boards. Don't feed them.

Hopefully, he's done with this. His rep took a hit; a second one would cement him as an only-in-it-for-the-money hack. Hopefully, Craig is close to done with this nonsense; the Bond franchise needs something very different than what was shown in this piece of flotsam.

Life is a state of mind.

Goldfinger was perhaps the greatest Bond Villain because (1) He actually had a brilliant, ruthless plan for his own gain (as opposed to creating a new world, etc.); and (2) he was calculating and rational - wanting to Kill Bond instantly rather than torture him endlessly or impress him with his plans - only turning him into a captive to scam the US government into not interfering.

Blowfeld was often written this same way - Ruthless, cold, and wanting only power and greed. Some versions were very good (OHMSS) and some were not (DAF).

None was worse than in Spectre, however, when Blowfeld's greatest goal in life was to be "the author of all of Bond's pain" He ended up looking so petty and pathetic.......

I liked Waltz as Blofeld

Suave, smooth but an evil SOB.
