What if Bond and MI shared the same universe???

The hot thing these days are connected universes so what if Paramount bought the Bond rights and decided to merge both Franchises? Just imagine, Instead of occasionally getting into contact with Felix Leiter, Bond gets with his buddy Ethan at IMF! Maybe they even run into each other during a mission or meet up three films later to face off a big, bad opponent?? Possible?? Cool? Or just a really dumb idea??

What say you??

Well, money-wise, they might be just reducing the box office potential of the two separate franchises, by combining them. Now you get one blockbuster instead of two. Will it make the sum of the two, or is its movie-going crowd consolidated, at a loss.

And who's going to be the grand protagonist, it seems like there needs to be only one for each universe. That would breed internal feuding I fear.

I actually think about this all the time ActionJunkie. I'm glad you asked in particular, because most hard Bond fans seem to completely hate this idea without giving it actual thought before disregarding it. It could be an interesting setup. The only thing isnthat if it's in Craigs verse, some of the tech won't line up. The more newer mission impossible films have been a bit more cartoonish (ONLY when in comparison to craigs films). Although Spectre gave us a more classic feel to Bond and his world, and Mi3 was pretty dark. so maybe it would work. I think it could happen, regardless of which Bond it ends up being. It could be good but the writing would really have to be top stock. There would have to be a solid reasoning for the two to come across each other. I actually thought IMF was it's own thing, not a branch of CIA or anything, but an independent gov't agency of its own. So i don't think it would have to include felix leighter or the cia. Idk, it definately could be a good story if properly written. Personally, i would love to see it happen, but only if the story was gold. But i think i'd be one of the rare few who would. I've always wanted to see how they match up in tactics. I feel they both have the same end goal but one is a bit more...shoot first, where the other likes to show no proof of existence.

Nice to be on the same wavelength! I also asked this on the MI boards and they appear to be against it too. Not sure what the big deal is. I mean, in MI5, they put the DB5 in London as an in joke so what's the issue with taking that a bit further and we see a mission that they actually cross paths?? I think, like you, they are very different in how they approach spy work so that could play well(if properly written) for some good laughs and some good repore with one another.

I feel that with what they did with Craig's tenure, It might not work. Like you said, the tech isn't matching up and the tones are way off too. But if they start a new tenure with a new actor and return the feeling of Bond films to a bit more of a balanced feel, with gadgets and classic bond motifs, it could be quite a fun little cross over! They don't have to get extreme like Marvel is now, but how they were in phase 1 might work really well. Like Bond is on his normal mission and maybe when they are giving him his mission, they talk about other rival agencies who also might be involved and they flash a pic of Cruise and mention the IMF. That would be cool in my book!!

Agreed man, i think it would be very exciting. I've always wondered about it.

I doubt that Tom Cruise would be willing to share the spotlight. Besides, Bond movies
are called Bond movies for a reason. Sorry.

Well, this USED to be the case! But Spectre had Q, MoneyPenny and M all directly taking care of the Mission, IE, the C unified spies stuff. So anything is possible now!!

I do remember when this series was more of a ONE MAN show. And they were quite good!

When i first answered you like literally minutes ago i wasn't very happy with but im quite liking it after all the 90s Bond was pretty similar to Mission Impossible with i guess the only difference is that Bond is British and Ethan is American.

Maybe it could work once in a while by making them as a duo sort of Men from U.N.C.L.E with just a different approach with the ladies Ethan avoiding something outside of the professional relationship or if he is involved it would be for real since Ethan does allow himself to fall in love or just keep the relationship as friends and professional partners while Bond would do the dirty seductive job just for the sake of getting information and having fun.

Bond would have to go back to the way he was in the 90s to make the partnership work otherwise it would be so weird. Actually now I think it would have been cool teaming up Pierce Brosnan and Tom Cruise in the 90s for a Bond/ Mi flick.

It would be a great idea to have Ethan play a Leiter-like role (ie 20 minutes of screen time) in one or two films. It'll never happen, but it would be a fun angle.

Exactly!! That's how I see it!
