What 12 Bond films would you buy?

I think my top 6 Bond films are FRWL, Goldfinger, OHMSS, TSWLM, GE and CR. I think these are truly great films and worth owning. But if I had to add another 6 I would probably first add Dr. No, Thunderball, and Skyfall. After that its get tough...

Nothing else by Connery is worthwhile. I like roger Moore but FYEO is the only other non cringeworthy offering of his Maybe the living daylights, maybe tomorrow never dies. it becomes very difficult.

What would your 12 bond films be? (Basically that means the top half of them)

What would your top 12 be?

reply

Casino Royale
Goldfinger
From Russia With Love
Skyfall
The Living Daylights
Thunderball
Spectre
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The Spy Who Loved Me
GoldenEye
Licence to Kill
Dr. No

(I already own all of the Bonds on Blu-ray except for MOONRAKER and the four Brosnans, for which the 2-disc Deluxe DVD editions are sufficient.)

That's a very good list. I forgot about license to kill

I have to remind myself not to feel bad for Roger Moore. He made the franchise and himself wealthy beyond belief. I always thought his character in TSWLM and FYEO was the best "mature Bond" - romantic and philosophical, but incredibly deadly in a disarming way.

But Moore was given more garbage to work with than any man should bear. Trying to watch Moonraker or a View to a Kill is torture at times, and seeing him dressed like a clown in Octopussy and then fighting along an all-female army or battling an actual 4'0 henchman in TMWTGG is beyond cringeworthy.

Basically it would be my top 12.

1.Licence to Kill
2.The World Is Not Enough
3.For Your Eyes Only
4.Casino Royale
5.Goldfinger
6.A View to a Kill
7.From Russia with Love
8.On Her Majesty's Secret Service
9.Die Another Day
10.Live and Let Die
11.The Living Daylights
12.Spectre

In order of release my Top 12 would be.

- Dr. No
- From Russia With Love
- Goldfinger
- Live and Let Die
- The Spy Who Loved Me
- The Living Daylights
- License to Kill
- GoldenEye
- Tomorrow Never Dies
- The World is Not Enough
- Casino Royale
- Skyfall

Dalton is incredibly underrated and i feel Brosnan's run has aged really well. If we're going solely on rewatchablility though, I find both Thunderball and Die Another Day to be really fun and easy watches, on some days I'd swap Skyfall and TWINE for them, 2 of the slower paced story entries.

In order of film release, I would chose 11:

- Dr. No (Connery is quite close to the ruthless novel version)
- From Russia With Love (great spy thriller instead of action flick)
- Goldfinger (Classic!)
- Thunderball (Great, if a bit over-long)
- You Only Live Twice (last of the great Connery films)
- On Her Majesty's Secret Service (my favorite!)
- The Spy Who Loved Me (one of the best Moore films)
- For Your Eyes Only (again, another great Moore film)
- Never Say Never Again (Not a great film, but hey, it's Connery again!)
- A View to a Kill (better than its reputation)
- Casino Royale (Best of the Craig films)

I'm not sure I liked any of the Dalton films. They looked bland to me, photography-wise. The Brosnan films were over-the-top, pretty-boy action-hero flicks. The Craig films are too moody and angry and have lost the sense of FUN that we see in the early Bond films.
