i would have prefered a DIFFERENT ENDING....

i don't need dark/depressing endings in my horror films but i feel in the case of this movie (which i DO like) it would have had more punch if the daughter and/or mother had been killed (i feel weird even typing that. LOL). i feel like a darker ending would have been more appropriate not to mention that i really doubt the lead possessed guy would have bothered to spare the mother/daughter.

Yup, no twist or tie-in.

Kind of an awesome movie, but didn't end very cinematic.

I somehow agree. I honestly expected after the exorcism, Santino would have no memory of what the demon did with his body so Sarchie would have no way of finding them. Also, that the priest would've known that would happen and all hell would break loose (pun intended).

I agree with this ending. Would've been miles better. I actually thought that Santini would have forgotten doing anything whilst possessed and remember thinking 'his wife and kid are *beep*

Yeah they should have had them killed or never found...this ending was so clichee

Yes OP...Totally agree with you on this one...the whole movie was really lame overall but the ending was just ridiculous and to happy for this kinda movie.

I actually quite enjoyed this movie as well, and I have seen a lot of people refer to other supernatural movies when talking about similarities, such as the exorcist. I also felt like the plot was similar to Seven as well or Se7en as some refer to it. Mainly Bana's lack of time spent with his family, much like Pitt, was with his character, was too busy with work to bother. Chasing a maniacal( or in this case a possessed) killer, all over town. Pitt had rage And hatred in his heart, same as Sarchie. Down to the killer entering Bana's home.

Anyways what I'm getting at is had they ended it with a "what's in the box" situation, people would have seen that correlation to Se7en and whined that it had borrowed heavily from that plot. All in all, it was kind of a cheesy end, but I thought it wrapped it nicely.
I also agree with another poster that a possessed killer probably would have scoffed at 2 more souls instead of holding them hostage though.
