No Emmy nomination for Toby Stephens?
COME.ON.
shareI agree, these awards are beyond ridiculous. They seem more like a popularity contest I think. Imagine even mentioning Kit Harrington with the likes of Kevin Spacey and Liev Schrieber in the same breath as far as a 'best actor' nomination goes, what a joke. IMO Toby S has been brilliant all the way through the Black Sails series, giving his all in the performance of a lifetime as the tortured Captain Flint. I guess Black Sails is just not as high profile as Game of Thrones and the popular character of Jon Snow so, based on this, I'll be surprised if Harrington doesn't get the Emmy, the only other possible threat being Rami Malek for the popular Mr Robot.
Maybe the Baftas will show some recognition for Toby Stephens, if not this year, maybe the next after season 4. I really expect to see even more powerhouse acting from him as poor old Flint declines towards his inevitable sad end. I will miss him so very much.
I read recently where Toby S will be going on to even bigger things by co-starring with Gerard Butler in his next big budget movie 'Hunter Killer', based on the acclaimed novel 'Firing Point', also co-starring Gary Oldman and Michael Nyqvist. I hope its a huge success for him as IMO we need to see much more of this super talented actor. He is also still my very favourite Mr Rochester of all time.
Honestly the awards have always been a joke, and have never been an indication of the "best". They are a product of propaganda. You literally have a room full of bitter biased dbags handing out awards. It literally means nothing to the average person.
People who watch this show and enjoy it knows that Toby Stephens has given what I consider to be the best performance on TV since Ian McShane on Deadwood. It's not even close really.
In a sea of BORING, dry, monotone "by the numbers actors" and perfomances, Toby is a shining beacon.
If Toby Stephens HAD been nominated, would you still see the Emmy's as meaningless, "bitter, biased dbag" propaganda?
Maybe the nominated actors were just on better or more popular shows?
Eva Green was also robbed for Penny Dreadful, not once but thrice. Admittedly season 3 was a let down but she was flat out amazing.
Patrick Wilson also got left out for Fargo and so was Jon Bernthal for Daredevil.
