Series down the drain

I must say that season 1-3 was really good.
I wonder what happened to the writers coming series 4.
Do they really think that we will root for the governor and his girlfriend.
Do we care for such a boring couple? Not me at least. And suddenly,
we are in a show that really has nothing going for it. All bad things happens to the
pirates and all good things to the establishment. Hmmm, isn't this supposed to be a
pirate show? Well, I thought so, because that's what it was previous seasons.
So, good bye, Black Sails, it was good for 3 seasons, then I guess the writers got drunk,
or some political correctness got a grip on them and never let go.
To bad for a concept that really could have worked for at least one more season.

I must admit, I was a superfan of the show but I'm not feeling it these two episodes. I'll hang in, though. I want to see some characters get offed just because I don't like happily ever after.

But wait a second.

Isn't this the end?

The pirates had their shot. They had Nassau (sort of). Now they're losing it, like they did in real life. This is the part where they lose.

Nobody except a few (like me) is rooting for the governor. We're watching the tragedy of these pirates and their last ditch effort to hold on to something they never really had.

I agree they could've went on for another season, with the sheer amount of real stories they can borrow from, but...this IS supposed to be the end.

Goodbye, Pete.
As the others responded, this IS the end game/final chapter in what we all know is not going to be victory for Team Pirate.
And I don't think we're supposed to or expected to root for Rogers (and his c__tbag wife). Not in the slightest bit is she portrayed as any kind of hero. Also, if you look at the actual history, not all good things happen to WR.
IMO, the whole story is shaping up to be a colossal defeat for BOTH sides. Obviously, Mother England will prevail in the overall, historical sense. But for all of the actual figures in the actual fight, it looks like nothing but tragedy awaits just about every single one of them. Ultimately, no one is going to achieve their desired end. And only the lucky ones will come with their lives.

**come out...

Like said elsewhere, we know who does and doesn't make it already. The show will almost certainly end showing a bit of the beginning of Treasure Island. Real history shows us the results for the real pirates as well, and they have to contend with that.

reply

I'm not sure how close to history they will stick with this show, since the historical characters killed so far have all had their deaths altered.

Teach is one of the few famous pirates to actually be killed in battle, and I for one am pretty pissed that they changed this. Teach was also killed before either Charles Vane or Benjamin Hornigold in real life, so Teach was certainly not in a place to avenge Vane. Hornigold died in a storm.

Isn't this show based on the book "treasure island" instead of real life ?

reply

It's both. Flint, Silver and Billy Bones are all fictional characters from "Treasure Island".

Benjamin Hornigold, Charles Vane, Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny, Edward "Blackbeard" Teach and Woodes Rogers are real life historical figures.

It similar what many shows like Boardwalk Empire, Deadwood or Spartacus do these days.

Ahh, didn't know it was a mix.
i never read the book so i assumed the book was based loosely on real life and included the real characters.

Where exactly are you getting "political correctness "

reply
