Message board being disabled

Pretty unfortunate. Liked discussing the show with everybody and seeing others opinions. Looks like we only got two weeks left, make them count everybody!

reply

The stupid trolls had to ruin it for the rest of us

reply

My thoughts exactly.

Wow. For a website to willingly disable a part of their website that generated so much traffic? Was all the negative talk and trash talk and name-calling and trolling (depending on your POV) really so horrible? Was it all the "Watch this movie online" spam? Was it all the conspiracy theories talk? The politics?

Or just getting rid of an old system?

reply

I suspect it was none of that. More likely a return on investment issue. If they really have over 10 million users on their Facebook page then how much staff time and payroll can they commit to these boards? The Facebook return on investment would be far higher.

I don't like it. But that's business.

reply

Yeah thats true in the message IMDb even said it was because of the lack of traffic on the message boards. Still unfortunate though

reply

Frustrating. I was looking forward to this board the most with it being the last season, I was hoping to see everyone's reaction to the finale.

People who troll need a new hobby, "online movie scams" who honestly falls for those? And politics I don't see why this is the right forum for it but that's my opinion.

Oh well nothing we can do now I guess!

reply

Apparently so, we live in a world where harmless trolling on message board is not acceptable but assuming all muslims are terrorists is a normal thing and totally acceptable, strange times we live in.

reply

LOL! Talk about resignation to failure! "We don't know how to improve the message boards so there won't be any, sorry."

There's no such thing as the establishment. Everyone knows that!

reply

Feels like we're all being throw on the scrap heap. I'll miss you guys.

reply

I hate that they're doing this. Yes there are lots of annoying trolls and people picking fights, but that's the internet for you. I always like going to the boards to see people's opinions and questions. I feel like I learn some things that I didn't know or missed. I don't know how they can make the facebook page specific to certain tv shows or movies. It's not like people will stop being jerks on a facebook page. I'm certainly going to spend a lot less time going to imdb. What a shame. Maybe someone should start a petition.

reply

There actually is one that I know of. Not sure what good it will do but I'll post the link a little later when I'm a free!

HBO did away with its message board, too. Ten years ago, it was like the wild West! Very contentious, devolving into threats in people's real lives and lawsuits between posters. I can see why companies are doing away with them. The general public is full of asshats!

reply

It is very unfortunate. When it comes down to it, the reason for a decision like this has GOT to be...money. Perhaps negative reviews of shows from the public is causing a drop in potential ratings, thus they have decided to silence us. For some, it will cause them to watch a crappy show for the first few eps & then get hooked on a few things they like about said show. Money makin da world go round. Thanks for selling out your subscribers IMDB

You're probably right about why they're shutting down. IT's a shame, though.

I can't do the Black Sails Facebook page. It's all gushing fans there.

reply

Merge over here guys and spread the word.

reply

Everyone needs to join imdb2 and spread the word FAST.

reply

Exactly. People need to know about it before these boards close and we're all dispersed.

reply

Well, I won't be shunted over to their FB page as the powers that be want. For one thing, I'm only still in season one of Black Sails, so I'll just be spoiling everything for myself if I look at the current posts. FB is NOT the format for the type of discussions we like to have here, but it's all about money, I'm sure.
