Suzanne and her sister?

Anyone remember when Suzanne's parents came to visit her at the prison (i think season 1 or 2)??

WHY was she living with her sister? Why was she left alone for the weekend and not with her parents?

This plot hole was really annoying.

reply

And I think they were different parents too? That one annoys me, but you do make a good point as to why Suzanne was alone.

reply

You need to look up the term "plot hole." This is not an example of one.

reply

She was incapable of taking care of herself. She had living, capable parents. She would not have been left alone in that apartment by any rational standard.

That is a plot hole. It is not logical.

Please don't try to sound smart and sarcastic when you are an idiot.

reply

Her sister was being selfish, that is not a plot hole.

reply

Her sister was being selfish???? What? Her parents are responsible for her NOT her sister.

reply

Responsibility falls on the caretaker. If her sister agreed to live with her and look after her that makes her the caretaker, not the parents.

In fairness to the sister, it's a lot of pressure to put on someone in her early-mid 20s. Yet more evidence Suzanne needed professional help.

reply

Her mother seemed to be in almost denial of Suzanne's issues. I could see her thinking that Suzanne living with the sister as opposed to her parents would be "good for her".

reply

Yeah, exactly. Suzanne's sister probably didn't even tell their parents that she was going off with her boyfriend, in case they said no. I'd be really interested to see how the family dealt with the consequences of those choices. Obviously it was an unfair burden to put on someone so young, but I'm sure there was a lot of blame going around.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

reply

Agreed.

reply

After seeing her backstory I placed the blame on her parents. They probably pressured and guilted her sister into letting Suzanne live with her. My guess is that Suzanne's sister doesn't come see her sister and doesn't speak to her parents.

In some of the flashbacks it appears that at least the mother is in denial about how mentally incapacitated Suzanne really is, p.e. at her high school graduation. So perhaps she made Suzanne move in with her sister in order to make her "act more like an adult" and because of codependency the sister didn't really reveal how overwhelming it was to take care of Suzanne. It mirrors the mother's previous behavior when she makes Suzanne's sister take her to a sleepover in order to be a "normal child", completely ignoring the fact that if nobody her age is inviting her for sleepovers and she has to go with her sister which is many years younger she probably has severe developmental issues and needs some help.
That being said, Suzanne should have either continued living with her parents or been in some assisted living situation because she was obviously not fit to take care of herself and had no idea how to make friends.
