Symbolism or what?

She turning into a sparrow was some kind of symbolism or did it actually happen? What was the point of her becoming a bird?

reply

No, it's actually based on a true story.

lol.

i was kinda dissapointed she didn't stay a bird. through the bird 'passage' it seemed like she was quickly how it felt to be a human.. so i thought it would be only 'natural' if she just joined the 'flock' of city birds and lived happily ever after. A real transformation.

Symbolism, obviously, yes. It's all about flight.

The hotel is next to an airport, and Audrey watches the planes come and go, and presumably dreams of taking one somewhere else, someplace far away.

Whereas the American, Gary, is sick of flying from one place to another and then another, in order to...stay alive. (but it is certainly not the case that birds are the only wildlife that spend most of their time searching for food....)

Audrey is suddenly, magically, given the gift of flight--and finds out it's not all it's cracked up to be. At least, her version. She has at least two near-death experiences, is faint from hunger, and presumably is glad to be back on the ground and in her former guise, albeit shoeless.

A nice little movie about the superficial nature of many of our dreams, some consequences of being granted our wishes, and...coming back down to earth. Not great by any measure, but a nice engaging little fable, IMO.
