Liked the sound of it until...

I saw the poster with the same old grubby, Ring style, long haired ghost on the poster. So bored of all that.

I don't mind spooky stories which cling to formulas, it works for fairy tales and ghost stories if done right... but the "unstable woman isn't believed because she might be imagining things" is also a bit overused lately. The last time it really really worked was "Babadook".
Together with what you mentioned, it sounds like a tad too much recycling.

reply

Just bored that the ghosts always seem to look the same. Babadook was extremely original

Do they ever do an unstable male character who isn't believed, just curious because that would be something different from the usual trope.

LOL you sadists https://youtu.be/6Zxy_dScjsM

Seriously, why has it been the crazy female lately? It has been done extremely well, though. Stranger Things is the best thing on Netflix right now. I like Kate Beckinsale so hopefully this will be good.

reply

One movie that has the male character is Disturbia.

reply

And Fright Night. Nobody believes the charming new neighbor is a vampire. And in both versions, it's a guy trying to convince everyone.

reply

Echo with Kevin Bacon comes to mind, although that is a few years old by now. But yeah, there have been male characters in that position too... although the influx of mentally unstable wives lately is pronounced.

reply

Exactly, couldn't agree more...

You have to take into consideration that posters sometimes have nothing to do with the movie.

Plus, two male actors are listed as playing ghosts in the movie. Unless someone who's not listed as a ghost could be one, like the actress who plays "Laura".

I guess the trailer is good at not revealing ghosts like that.

reply

I have my doubts but I hope its a good film.

reply

and the sad part is.....there's no grubby ring style long haired ghost
