I can guess the rating

Rotten Tomatoes: 96%
Imdb: 8.7

That is a very high assumption however with Affleck writing and directing i can see this being a close estimate. The film also centers around crime which seems to be a strong suit for Affleck.

definitely going to be 87% lowest on rotten tomatoes..maybe as high as 97

reply

82% seems to be a common among rotten tomatoes so i would definitely say no lower than that. However if i was to guess its score i would go with 89% based off the fact that some critics dislike book adaptations or expect it to be the exact same.

My own wild guess:

Tomatometer: 66%
Average rating: 6.4/10
Fresh: 139
Rotten: 73
Total: 212
Critical Consensus: "Director and star Ben Affleck's bold interpretation of Dennis Lehane's epic novel yields mostly satisfying results, though his skills as a storyteller may not be quite equipped to handle material of such considerable scope."

This is just me being cautiously pessimistic. I've heard a lot of people complain about Affleck's casting of himself of a character who apparently is in his 20s, and what I've gathered is that Dennis Lehane's novel is akin to a Prohibition Era-set Once Upon a Time in America, so this project may be a little too ambitious for Affleck. Or maybe he'll pull it off really well---we'll just have to see the film to reach a conclusion.

No, it's still in post-production. I honestly have no idea how this movie will be received. Ben Affleck's movies all got RT scores in the 90s, but a lot of directors start out with three great films followed by a significantly lesser one. A comparable situation would be Duncan Jones's Warcraft this year. I certainly hope Live by Night will be really good, though.

Jeff Nichols has been having the same problem lately.

reply

I'm in the film if that helps.

How was Affleck as a director, in your experience? Did he seem really confident about his decisions and like he knew exactly how he wanted to bring the book to the screen? Also, how do you think he did as Joe Coughlin?

I can't disclose really anything but, Affleck was good, As you can see by the photos online show that the set is very accurate to that specific era. I can say that or I could see, Ben had confidence. This film will win some oscars.

Bridge of Spies was based on a book and that got a good rating of 91%

reply

I'm not saying movies based off of a book will do bad but for them to succeed they must be good and more often then not to the book. Usually due to people having already existent expectations.

The preview looks dreadful. Obvious sets, bad acting, just more shooting and blowing stuff up. People talking in whispery/throaty voices. Yawn. The fact that I got so bored watching the preview that I "left' before the end is not a good sign.

Just my take on it; not telling anyone else what to think.

You seem to be in the minority. Most, including myself, loved the trailer.

IMDB 7.6
Metascore: 5.5

My score from the trailer 7

reply

Why do you think it will be so low?

The trailer just does not grab me. I see a lot of great actors, but still. Maybe its Ben Affleck in the white suit and the voice or because they show to much in the trailer i dont know. And i am not a Ben Affleck hater, but still. Maybe it will be a pleasant surprise. We'll see :D

reply

Thats fair enough, i know a few people who didn't really care for it. Admittedly though, i loved it. Have you seen any of Affleck's other directorial / writing efforts? What did you think of them?

reply

Overal pleasantly surprised....
Loved "Gone Baby Gone" wow (my rating 8)
"The Town" great acting and a nice genre movie (a 7 with a big plusbecause its just not an 8 :P)
And "Argo" .... i knew the story, had big hopes, but then the hype started, even people saying masterpiece.... So when i finally saw it what a let down. Good movie but just not that good, could have been better i think (rated it 7 as well)

reply

I would agree with 7.6 as a prediction. I don't consider that low by any means.

Alright!

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.
