Affleck cannot act

Ben Affleck cannot act. His go to look is weary. In fact, if you watch the trailer, you can imagine it's Bruce Wayne you're seeing. He can't emote. There is nothing but flatness in his eyes.

reply

The Town, Argo, Batman v Superman, Chasing Amy, Good Will Hunting. Just because you have seen a trailer doesn't mean you need to come to a board and bash it. People have been here for months counting down the days. Take your pessimistic opinions elsewhere.

If society could break Pagliacci, then what hope is there for me?

reply

There's always the one.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

reply

I hope your not referring to me as 'the one'...

The Ultimate Edition was on par with Civil War and Ironman 3: mediocre.

reply

He forgets that a movies quality does not determine the performances given, hence nearly all critics praised Affleck as Bruce Wayne.

Affleck is the best Batman yet. Everyone knows it. That's why they gave him the keys to the franchise.

BvS had issues as a whole though.

reply

Affleck is the worst Batman. And just typing those words should cause you embarrasment. WB gave Affleckd "the keys" to the franchise, because they are desperate. They have a colossal mess with what Snyder has done with Superman.

Affleck has proven himself a capable director, so they snagged him to reboot a successful franchise -- and they cannot ask him to cast someone else as the caped crusader!

Oh, and when you speak or type in absolutes, like, "everyone knows it," you just look ignorant. That sentence is patently false. I would bet you money that everyone does not agree.

How are they desperate?

BvS has made 872 million so far.
Suicide Squad 640 million.
I'm betting Wonder Woman hits a billion.

Being a good actor doesn't mean making different faces or raising your voice. It means building believable characters. The Town, Gone Girl, Argo--Affleck performed.

I don't mind hearing opinions, these are discussion boards. But making ridiculous statements to fluff a post.... "DC is desperate" The Trinity will keep DC going far after our lifetimes....

@crashdummy35

You appear to not understand how the movie industry works. Films need to make a profit, so it isn't as simple as citing grosses. Read some articles, "BvS" failed to break a billion dollars. It's not considered a failure, but also considered a success.

You think Affleck was the reason people saw "Suicide Squad"? You are desperate to defend to him. Was he in the suicide squad?

No (expletive)! Acting isn't about making faces or raising your voice. But going to those examples as your defense of Affleck, shows you don't understand acting. It's in the eyes. The emoting. He is flat as hell.

Affleck does zero acting in "Argo". Watch it again. Expressionless. If you can't recognize that, then you do not understand acting.

And, seriously, you are citing "Gone Girl"in defense of his acting skills? Why don't you look up the articles where David Fincher deliberately used his flat performances in the director's favor for the character. (Hell, his lack of dimension is made into a joke in the film, itself, when he's getting ready for a TV interview, and Tyler Perry throws m&ms at him!)

Everyone knows it? Really? What an attitude man, good for you.

Books are a uniquely portable magic. ~Stephen King

reply

@AustraPol

Affleck was "praised" as Wayne, because that was the ONLY thing worth complimenting about the movie (i.e. critics were desperate to find something likable!).

No depth. No emoting. Just a voice change to a little bit of a growl -- and that's acting to you?!

reply

Talk about desperation.

"Depth". Explain an actor's depth. How does one convey depth? Please explain. As far as I know depth comes from the script, character development.

Can't emote. Pffffff Jesse Eisenberg emotes his azz off in BvS as Lex Luthor and as J. Daniel Atlas in Now You See Me 2...both shxt performances. Horrible performances.

Making a character believable---
that's
acting. He may not be Oscar material but a bad actor? Pfffffff!

reply

The Ultimate Edition was just a longer (expletive)fest of a movie. Same plot, just longer. Perhaps, one day, with distance from "BvS", you'll be able to see it, too.

reply

Will you pray for me father?

Argo f— yourself.

reply

@AustraPol
You've listed a filmography. The same could be done for Arnold Schwarzenegger. That doesn't he can act, either!

In fact, you're making this too easy for me. Watch Argo again. Affleck is expressionless in the film. Nothing. He's weary and barely anything behond that in "The Town." Same goes for "Batman v. Superman" (good lord, why do you think his performance as Batman in my original comment)!

Are you really offering "Chasing Amy" a fluff b-level movie by Kevin Smith, and "Good Will Hunting," where he's nothing more than the big lug, good buddy to Damon?!

It's not pessimism. It's being realistic. You just can't handle the truth! I feel sorry for you, for you probably won't be able to appreciate a great acting performance, when you see it, since you think Affleck is a good actor. Sad.

reply

I was just giving a list of his best. I prefer Affleck as a writer first and foremost then a director. His acting is average, his not the greatest yet, has certainly had some great moments. Is that a problem? Would you deny him the merit of being a great writer and director?

Argo f— yourself.

reply

Ben? Ben, is that you?

How many posts do you need to make defending his acting? Lol. He's a bad actor. Deal with it. ;)

reply

This is a discussion board, yes? You realize that a conversation usually lasts longer than a sentence that continues to include multiple retorts.

You question my normality because I'm happy.

reply

Really, Austra? I had no idea...thanks for enlightening me. 

I'm totally fine with Ben affleck as bruce wayne.

But joe is nineteen when this book starts, and judging from the trailer, it looks like he combined these two books - which I'm also okay with. I'm not okay with a fifty year old pretending he can pass for a nineteen year old. And if Joe isn't nineteen at the start, I believe the story will lose a lot of its weight.

There's no way Ben affleck read this book and imagined himself as the protagonist. I call bs.

reply

He was around 43 when they shot it, actually. Besides, it seems like they changed the character's age and backstory a bit. The trailer mentions he went to war, so he had to be at least 18 in 1918, and the story starts at 1927, so he would be 27.

A 43 year old in good shape playing a 27 years old man is A-0K with me. If people can forget the fact Tobey Maguire was 27 playing a 17 year old, or James Stewart was 54 playing a twenty something in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, why not this case?

reply

This is news? :)

reply

Haha... Touche!

reply

I really enjoyed him as Batman. He's usually good in most things these days.

reply

He's awful in everything he's in. We must have seen completely different movies.

reply

I agree! He sucks! He needs to stick to directing!

reply

He was great in The Accountant. He's a decent actor.
