Costume design looks like costumes.

I don't think Ben Affleck is a good director. I might not even see this when it's released on blurry. He's just trying to play cops &a robbers in this movie and seems to be trying to copy The Untouchables. I'm sorry but Affleck just doesn't look like a gangster. If he really wanted to make this a good movie he would've hired a better lead actor instead of himself. He's just concentrating on making himself a big movie star again (if he ever once was).

And the costumes seem like they just came out of an Armani shop and don't have that "realistic" look to them.

Not sure this is what you're talking about but for what it's worth, it's mentioned in the book that Joe Coughlin is totally out of place in Florida, and he never quite knows how to dress. It's directly mentioned his suits don't quite fit right. He looks like a kid from Boston struggling to fit into Florida.

What I'm talking about is that many movies make the mistake in costume design is that it seems all the characters are basically wearing new clothes. That's because they are as it's a movie and new clothes were made for the characters to wear in the movie. It takes a bit of reality away from the movie. For example in The Untouchables it doesn't seem like Malone is wearing a newly pressed uniform or Capone or Ness have just stepped out of the new clothes store.

Probably because Affleck's "acting" is on a par with your average shop dummy.
