Is it too violent?

I'm thinking about seeing this, but I'm a little concerned about what I've read in the reviews. Most critics seem to like it, and the main character sounds interesting, but words like gruesome and brutal are frequently used.

Now, don't get me wrong - I don't mind violence in a movie, even brutal violence (think Pulp Fiction, Gladiator, Schindler's List). I don't even mind if it's a crucial component of the plot. What turns me off is when inflicting grisly pain and death is the plot (think Hostel). I've got no use for that, and reviews for Blue Ruin focus on the film's brutality an awful lot.

So to those of you who've seen it, knowing what my preferences are, do you think it's worth my time? Thanks.

There are just a couple of scenes that are a bit graphic, the plot is focused mainly on a revenge yes, but nothing so brutal, there's some fine black humor too. In my opinion, without spoil anything, absolutely worth the watch!

Thanks. I appreciate that, and will give it a look-see.

Any violence is certainly in service of the story. I highly doubt you will regret seeing it. Great film.
