It was decent.

The movie starts off great, but there is no emotional connection to the Clevelands because their perspective isn't even represented. So when these family members die, it's like "so what?" I just wasn't moved. And as the movie rolled on, I even lost the connection to the main character. I didn't feel his plight on an emotional level because the movie ends in a meaningless bloodbath. It felt as shallow as a zombie movie in the end.

Conversely, the movies below are master-works in character developement and I find each one of the superior. Out of the Furnace stands out in particular if you liked this film.

Out of the Furnace and In the Bedroom are outstanding films. Something I find interesting about your choices -- they're based on themes of revenge, the same as Blue Ruin.

I love both those films and you're right, the character development in them is exceptional.

But I didn't feel any emotional connection to the bad guys in OOTF and ITB either. If their "perspectives" were represented, I didn't really care. I simply hated them, and I was very much looking forward to seeing them get their heads blown off.

I've never seen Prisoners.

Oh, Inspector Morse! What big blue eyes you have.
