** Spoilers ** I can't say that I didn't enjoy this film but.......

.....the low key performance by the lead didn't sit quite right with the emotive subject matter. His killing of the man convicted of killing his parents initially seemed so matter of fact. Maybe it challenged my perception of how revenge movies should unfold.....

You're certainly entitled to your half baked opinion.

Indeed. The more I think about the film, the more I see it as a deconstruction of the whole genre. "Understated revenge film" describes it, and revenge film is the most over-the-top film genre there is.

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.

I'm thinking it was because he was dead inside. His soul died when his parents were killed and it only got worse as the years went by. By the time he got the chance for revenge he almost wasn't even human anymore. The only things he showed any emotion towards was his remaining family and his friend.

I think it was the best motive of the movie - not only it it challenged the perception of how revenge movies go, but also the storytelling was structure was splendid. Mainly in the way how they did not show the parents' killing but instead they showed how he lived his live.

This was by far more moving than showing the actual massacre. Awesome work by the director.

It was a perfect performance. Would you rather he'd gone into the men's room like Rambo?
