I wish Out of The Furnace had been as good as this film

All that talent in Out of The Furnace and the film was a huge disappointment - ruined by absurd character decisions and incoherent character motivations, but then a tiny little film like Blue Ruin comes along and ends up being incredibly powerful.

Rinse:repeat. Totally.

Furnace has an amazing cast, but like a lot of people was letdown. Liked the first half anyways

Really?

I thought Out of the Furnace was a fantastic film, and Christian Bale was outstanding in it.

The sad-sack main character in this film has none of Bale's charisma, but their motives were both similar.

I thought both did a wonderful job of portraying the theme of revenge.

I just watched Out of the Furnace two days ago, and last night I watched Blue Ruin.
OOTF had a better villain, Woody Harrelson was scary and unpredictable. BR didn't really deliver when it came to antagonists, but had more suspenseful moments, (my favorites being the home invasion at his sister's house, and when he waited for the family in their home for the 1st night).
On your point of the main characters: you're right, Christian Bale was on point, the character was someone you'd like to know on a personal basis and you could see how he was a good person. The main character in BR was a loser whose decisions are mostly questionable and probably don't make sense to most people.
Both movies were okay, neither were spectacular, but I'd watch OOTF again before I watched BR.

He told me enough, he told me YOU killed him!
