Will 'Rio 2' destroy 'Captain America : TWS' ? - Rio 2 (2014) Discussion

I'm expecting a strong hold from Winter Soldier this weekend because of word of mouth and Rio 2 is another member of a long line of kids movies at the start of this year. Whilst the first was popular in gross I don't think this is going to make much more ground than the first due to a lukewarm reaction. Plus it really seems awareness is low for this based on the board and reports from across the Internet. To be fair, why should you give a crap when you can take your kid to Captain America or Spider Man instead and especially after the quality of Lego Movie and Frozen.

also Agents of Shield episode "Turn, Turn, Turn" also ties into Winter Soldier so expect so impact from that as well(RE-watching)
with all that I don't expect Rio being on Top. Most likely 2nd or third

While it might not beat Captain America, I still expect the film to do well on its opening weekend.

I'm really pulling for Rio 2 this weekend. The Captain America fans have been really annoying, calling it gods gift to cinema, and guaranteeing it beats Thor 2's 644M. They REALLY need to be brought crashing back down to earth . Rio 2 needs about 45M to get it done, I wont be able to take another week of Cap 2 hype in my face.

Wow, who gives a s_t? Bottom line is that Rio 2 sucks. I don't even need to see it, I knew from its conception that it would. It's not some pathetic contest with this BO stuff. Both movies will likely make a great profit but this winter solider movie is clearly the one being praised and Rio 2 is not.

The rabid Captain America fanboys who were 100% confident that TWS would outperform Rio 2 by several million dollars and take the #1 spot again. I guarantee that some people would be very surprised and even upset if that happens.

I see all Marvel Studios films, buuuut...I'm more of a Thor fan. If they would have never brought my childhood comic hero to the screen, I wouldnt be as into them as I am . So I dont really care about the other guys like Iron Man and Cap.

The Cap fans have gotten word of Rio 2's projections, and they're TRYING to put a spin on it . Oh, we'll be second place, but its still a lot of money. Trust me, they want that #1 spot MORE than another good weekend . It would be a MASSIVE blow to 'em if it doesn't repeat as #1 like Thor has done with both its movies.

Rio 2 barely beat Captain America 2 by less than a million.

That is hardly an accomplishment!

Especially since this is Rio's first weekend and it almost got beaten by Cap's second weekend!

That is not a landslide victory~!

There is no "victory", period. The BO is not a contest. The OP is an idiot. Seems like both films are doing very well, unfortunately including the trashy Rio 2, because there are dense people still willing to pay for any kiddie film that comes out even when denounced by the (normally very lenient toward CGI family films) critics because it's the only suitable movie for their kids.
