Steve Jobs was an Arab...

...Does this movie address the issues he had with his estranged father who is originally from Syria?

Jobs only cared about his companies. Didn't care for his family very much and didn't care at all for his biological father. So no, it shouldn't even be shown.
I do believe they focus on his failed parenthood however.

I live one block down and one block over from Steve's Palo Alto house. I was always struck but just how wonderful he was with his boy and how close the two seemed. I'd see them together at Whole Foods and around the neighborhood and they were great together.

What was it like to have Jobs as a neighbor? He always enjoyed a smile and a nod but no more than that. In other words he enjoyed being recognized by those who lived around him but he didn't want to stop and talk.

I always thought it sort of odd. Steve's Palo Alto house, were he spent his last 20 years or so, was very nice but it was nothing more than upper middle class. I'm sure just about any NFL player would live in a much nicer house.

How very heartwarming to know that he was so close to one of his 4 children.

To say that Steve Jobs was an Arab is sort of interesting. He didn’t speak Arabic. He didn’t belong to any Arab organizations. He never identified himself as Arabic. So far as I know he didn’t have any great fondness for arabic food, culture or literature. I'm not even sure he ever visited an Arab country although I might well be wrong on that one.

I know that many Arabs take pride in Job’s “arabic” heritage be even they admit that had he lived in Syria and not the US he probably never would have accomplished a thing.

His father being Arab by default makes him Arab. He doesnt have to like Middle Eastern food or have visited an Arabic country, or even speak the language to be Arab (even though the race is defined by its linguistic attribute). Anyway despite Syria being a politically messed up place, most Syrians (that I personally know at least), are pretty bright, friendly and regular folk. What nationality they are or where they live doesnt add or take any of that away from them

That's nonsense. My father is from Indonesia and I'm 0% Indonesian, I don't even look like him, haven't been to the country ever, don't like the food and don't care for the culture. If Jobs never self-identified as an Arab, he wasn't an Arab.

reply

Nonsense. If your father is Indonesian, then you are half Indonesian, no matter how much you may deny it. You cannot change your biological origins. Likewise, Steve Jobs was half Syrian Arab, whether he liked it or not, no matter how much he may have wanted to deny it.

"WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM???!!!!!"

the west is very hypocritical, many great arab scientists are called persians or jews or what ever when it's only their biological side say so, their books, culture, main language, even names are arabic. usually i side with culture and i consider jobs as american but actually in this case i might at least note that biology could have something to say, since his biological sister who he didn't know, and some other members of jandaly family, his real name, in syria are very creative people in literature and music.
