Finished reading the book, now just finished the movie.
Once again, I just finished reading (listening to) the entire non-abridged "Steve Jobs" biography that I found very interesting.
Just finished watching the movie tonight. Loved it. Helped put some faces to characters I read about and was nice to see the dramatizations of certain parts of the book I particularly was captivated with.
I never saw one episode of "Punk'd", nor one episode of "That '70s Show", nor have I ever read and/or looked at nor cared about any tabloids. I saw "The Butterfly Effect" which is a completely underrated movie and thought Ashton's performance in it was excellent! And his performance of Jobs was not only extremely accurate (comparing to the descriptions in the book) but just... extremely well done. I cannot believe all the Kutcher hate here in this thread! WTF?
The movie, just like any biography, has to focus on what points it can keep, and certain aspects to combine in a 2-hour long expression. The points that I thought were the most unique and interesting from the book, were part of the movie and done well. Some have complained about the lack of some personal details... OK, they do cover the daughter issue a bit, but what they don't cover is well... romantic ups and downs and relationships that um... everyone has. Not necessary in a movie about a person's remarkability that didn't revolve around his personal relationships.
The movie does NOT show Jobs as being perfect, or even a decent human being. He was quite a jerk, and quite a lot of the time. The book of course shows more of this, but the movie makes it clear. He was also the genius, and failure that is shown in the movie, and ultimately the successful visionary for the company until his death.
If there wasn't enough for you in this movie, then feel free to read the book. If you don't care to read the book, that's perfectly OK! :) Just accept the movie for two-hours of dramatization of part of Job's career life. It was well made, entertaining, with great performances (especially Ashton Kutcher) and very accurate.
