Ep 4: The THEME of "BEING ALONE"

https://atribecalledgeek.com/recap-true-detective-night-country-s4-p4/#:~:text=More%20than%20anything%2C%20this%20episode%20deals%20with%20isolation,killed%20herself%20and%20leaving%20Trooper%20Navarro%20entirely%20alone.

More than anything, this episode deals with isolation and how it can ruin a person.

* Liz is left isolated from her daughter.
* Officer Prior (Pete) is fighting with his wife. (Plus Hank is dumped by Alina)
*Julia felt alone against the world before she killed herself and leaving Trooper Navarro entirely alone.

The show continues to be engaging, tightly written, and surprisingly evocative of the Indigenous experience.
We’ve got two episodes left to wrap up this mystery, and I don’t think I’m the only one waiting to see where it takes us next.

And then we also have the character ROSE who Navarro finds ALONE on Christmas. But instead of finding her an emotional mess like the some of the other characters, we find her in a FESTIVE MOOD, wearing a pretty RED DRESS, and looking very lovely with her hair fixed up for the occasion. Plus her place is also full of lots of Holiday treats that she's made.

In other words, even though she's also alone, her ISOLATION doesn't seem to have "RUINED her" the same way as it has the others???

Why not???

Anyone else have any ideas as to how ROSE is better able to cope with her isolation than the others can???

🤔

The step-daughter has no right to complain. Danvers raised her well for all intents and purposes. Her house was nicer than most in town. She had a lot of things in that room, so money was not withheld from her.

Danvers kept her from being arrested TWICE! The girl must have mental problems as well, if she doesn't realize it.

And the people she ran to have NO RIGHT to interfere. Where were they when she was a little girl?

That kid needs a two by four to the head to get some sense.

There's definitely a FEUD going on between Peter's wife and Danvers (who resents the way so much of the time of her husband is being spent working and at the bidding of his boss).

So the question to ask is if the wife is using Leah (the step child) as a way to punish Danvers for the way that she sees her taking time away from her being able to spent it with her husband.

And then we also learned that Pete's wife didn't even want their son Darwin.

So if she didn't want a son, why would she care so much about Leah learning the ways of her people???

It's almost as if that's an excuse used as a way to pay back Danvers??? Because surely she must also realize how she's GROOMING Leah to be another ANNIE by painting her face with the same TATTOO??? And she's also teaching her son to draw the picture of what must also be the Fingerless SEA GODDESS???

In other words, maybe Leah's being used or Manipulated by Pete's wife into doing what she does???

But wasn't it also Leah's love interest (the 16 yr old Ice Skater) who takes her to the Protest meeting???

Anyhow, I agree that Pete's wife shouldn't interfere the way she's doing, because what she does to Leah places her in the same kind of DANGER that Annie was in. And that's what Danver's is trying to protect her from ... becoming another CORPSE.

Apparently Pete also BABYSAT Leah as a child, so that's also the reason why she spends time at his place. We also saw how close they are (like a brother and sister) when they discussed the way Danver's use to dance with her father to the Tic Tok song that Pete was watching on his cell phone.

So Pete was there when Leah was a child. And if she's also 16 now, and Danver's came to ENNIS 6 yrs ago when Leah was age 10 (back when Annie died), then that could also explain the reason why Pete would babysit for her ... Especially if her father and baby brother were also deceased at that time.

Since they also kind of look-a-like, also wonder if someone will incorrectly assume Pete's wife is Leah and then murder her instead of killing Leah???

So what about Rose? Remember her telling Navarro that Travis is the first time that she's been visited by a Dead Person? Is it possible Rose is haunted by Travis because she's feeling GUILTY over his death? Could something that Rose is or was formerly involved with have caused his cancer? Could some of the IDEAS that she's rejected have also caused the deaths of still others, and that's the reason why she moves to Alaska in hopes of being ALONE???

But if BEING ALONE is what she wanted, then why does she also say that NAVARRO was the GIFT that Travis brought her by killing himself???

The step-daughter/daughter subplot is so messed up.

So Danvers has been taking care of her since she was 9 or 10, perhaps even earlier because Danvers' son looks about Darwin's age. So that would be 2 or 3. Lets say 3. So that would mean Danvers has been taking care of Leah since she was 6 or 7 years of age. Again, no one stepped up to the plate when the father passed and Leah was left orphaned. No one except Danvers. Where were they all when Leah was growing up outside Native culture?

That whole thing with Leah saying Danvers doesn't have to pretend to be family. That was loads of messed up and it wasn't Leah talking, that was all Kayla. If Danvers was taking care of her since she was 6, she isn't pretending to be family. She IS family.

What annoys me is that the show is playing it as Native rights and creating the appearance of wedges where there are none. Then playing it off as oppression. It ticks me off.

And the tattoos are completely anti-social. It should be a practice that is best left to history. Those marks on the chin mean that the female has reached puberty and is menstruating. Who would want that on their face? And when they walk around non-tribal areas, they get ticked when people stare at them. Well, if you are done up like the illustrated men...yeah, people are going to stare.

Since Leah's father looks like a Non Native White guy in the FLASHBACK scene where we see Danver's Dancing with him, that probably means her mother was a Native? So is she dead? Did she die in childbirth? Did she also give birth to Leah's brother as well???

There's so many questions we can ask about the past of Danvers. Because if both she and Leah's father are white, then why does the young boy also look Native? Were both Leah and the boy adopted??? That's still another possibility.

And yes the Natives also blame everything that's happening on the mine (not as many CRABS to catch), still births, brownish water coming from the faucet, etc. But couldn't the reduction in Crabs also be due to OVER FISHING or CLIMATE CHANGE??? And couldn't the STILL BIRTHS be a result of Annie's absence? And maybe the brown color of the water could also be a result of ICE MELT due to warmer weather???

What also worries me about those TATTOO's is the way that it also announces to the males that a female is available for sex. So the process is also kind of SEXIST ... like wearing a sign that says "AVIALABLE NOW" which can also lead to all kinds of other Sexual Exploitation.

But maybe thinking that way is also a result of being brought up in another different kind of culture???

For some reason I'm also thinking Peter's going to kill his father Hank. Remember how Hank said BLOOD means more (after he found out his son gave Danver's the box with evidence about Annie)??? Then if someone kills his wife Kayla (thinking she's Leah cas they look-a-like), that would also leave Peter to raise his son ALL ALONE and it would also give him something in common with Danver's.

Maybe the story ends with ROSE having another CHRISTMAS or NEW YEAR's party, only this time she also invites NAVARRO, DANVERS, and PETE to it??? And if he's still alive, then maybe Hank will also be there as well??? Or maybe Hank could also show up even if he's DEAD???

I don't think Hank has anything to do with Annie other than probably taking money to look the other way. No, Peter won't kill him. But he will probably find out if Hank took bribes and he will tell Danvers.

Kayla is probably going to leave him. Good Riddance, she is a psycho. She should understand being a police officer is a full time job. What did she think, he was going to be sitting outside the police station like Andy Griffith? Because Ennis is so like Mayberry.

There is a connection between the mine and Tsalal. Maybe Tsalal was allowed to pull samples where the mine was searching for new drill points. It released a toxin of some kind that makes people hallucinate.

Someone posted a message saying they'd seen previews of Lots of BLOOD on Danver's FLOOR and Hank was dumping a body into something. Have you seen anything like that?

And Yes when Kayla BITES the neck of PETER, that also gave the impression that she's a PSYCHO. Especially when he also seems to be such a nice guy.

Since the message written on the WHITEBOARD said:

WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE

I'm thinking the researchers discovered something that's going to KILL EVERYONE all around the GLOBE???

Therefore, possibly also making what ROSE said about ENNIS being the place where things UNRAVEL at the SEAM have a VALIDITY that we don't yet comprehend???

In other words, wouldn't some mine run off or the release of a toxin be a local problem rather than a GLOBAL one???

But those RED CIRCLES that we see around those numbers on the WHITEBOARD also seemed to indicate "ALL of US" will DIE rather than just the inhabitants of ENNIS.

If Clark's still alive, and if they can make him sane again, maybe he can also figure out a way to prevent this from happening???
