Accusing it of having bad acting because you're annoyed by mannerisms.

I would never want to hang out with ANY characters from a Noah Baumback film, but I recognize them in the world, and I feel like he gets honest performances out of them. They are often *trying* to sound witty and failing...and then you call this bad acting. You just want charismatic performances. Go watch a Cameron Crowe film or some such type of film.

That's what's known as a 'straw man' argument. The acting was fairly poor, IMO. Gerwig is a likeable actress, but not a particularly good one from what I've seen, 'though I get the feeling Baumbach is to blame for this; there were several moments when it seemed the actors were reading their lines for the umpteenth time, without focus, hadn't been given specific enough direction, or simply weren't natural enough. And I'm not referring to the deliberate, heavy-handed awkwardness. You want good acting? Go watch another film.

I didn't mind the acting at all. This is not to say that I thought that that the acting was incredibly good. It was not bad, I didn't give it a second thought.

Now that I think about it, maybe THAT is good acting. When you don't give it a second thought and you are thoroughly engrossed in the plot and the characters.

When you see Daniel Day Lewis performing you think to yourself: gee, this guy is such a good actor. The fact that he is so good brings attention to the fact that he is acting. Perhaps in reality the mediocre actors are the best actors because their mediocrity does not bring attention.

That being said, I'm not liking the fact that Gerwig plays almost the same character in every movie. Perhaps she has very limited range as an actor or perhaps she is being typecast.

George Clooney is a good example of a big name actor with very limited range. In my humble opinion he is also a talentless hack but that's just my opinion.

Don't you feel that's an issue you have with Gerwig instead of this film as a piece of art?
