Mauvais Sang lift

I'm assuming it's an homage but the scene everyone talks about in Frances Ha of Gerwig running through the streets of NYC to David Bowie's "Modern Love" is lifted directly from Leos Carax's "Mauvais Sang" in which Denis Lavant ran through the streets of Paris to David Bowie's "Modern Love." It's a stunning scene and worth seeing the original.

That Mauvais Sang scene is one of my all time favorites. I was pretty stunned to see Baumbach lift that scene directly without doing much to make it his own. I would have been much happier if he had just used a different Bowie song. Try as I might, I can't see how this is not a ripoff of that scene. I really think it oversteps the boundaries of homage.

It didn't affect my overall enjoyment of Frances Ha all that much but it definitely distracted from what should have been a great scene.

Anyway, much as I liked Frances Ha, I have to say Mauvais Sang is the superior film.

EVERY film director in the world wishes thay could emulate that unforgettable scene from Leo Carax' MAUVAIS SANG (and all those who pretentiously tried to have failed miserably. Another such attempt was made by Canadian director Mina Shum in the little seen DOUBLE HAPPINESS starring a pre-GREY'S ANATOMY Sandra Oh).

thanks a lot! It remind me of something I watched before but now it's clear to me.

I just rewatched that scene now in my file of "mauvaius saung", a 700 mb rip.
by the way, such a unique movie doesn't have plans to be released in HD? such a pity!

That scene was almost a rip-off, and Denis Lavant was better in fact!

Leos Carax’s Mauvais sang, itself a homage to the Nouvelle Vague spirit.

good thread! reminds me what IMDb used to be like before the dumb-teens and trolls invaded.

Yea, it took me straight out of the movie. It didn't add or comment or even evoke the original film in a meaningful way. It was just "Hey, this is a cool scene that's in another movie!"

"Weirdness was all he cared about. Weirdness and sex and plenty to drink."
