Why can't this win best picture?

Is it a financial thing? It's a modern day Annie Hall except without an annoying Woody Allen character (as I'm writing this Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are doing a Woody Allen impression in The Trip), hilarious.

I haven't seen every film up for consideration yet this year, but my number two and three films are Mud and The Way Way Back.

I doubt Alexander Payne or David O. Russell will top Noah. The only way I see Ha being passed up on my personal list is if the Coen's strike gold, although I'm folk rock biased considering Blonde on Blonde is my favorite album of all time.

Frances was likable but not THAT likable. BUT I think Baumbach's characters are getting stronger with each film. Frances had some amazing scenes.

Pretty sure 12 Years A Slave is going to be sharing all the AA's with Dallas Buyers Club this year.

It can win for best original screenplay because this one is one of the few categories which the Oscars usually gives to movies like this (including some of woody allen).

But I think original screenplay will be for "Her". They even gave it to Charlie Kaufman once, so it's likely they give it to Spike Jonze.

It is nominated for best feature in the Independent Spirit Awards and studios need to push films for the big nominations and the studio only focused on the acting it seems. Noah's film imo will have a lasting impact on the American Independent Cinema movement. David O Russell directed an exuberant film, but was not as multi-layered as some of his previous work. I have not got a chance to see Nebraska yet, but it does look amazing. The Coens's film is a more bleak outlook on the starving artist story of an artist that does not really have a home and is more grounded in reality.
